About me

Hello, my name is Connie Lai and I am based in Los Angeles, CA. I am originally from Hong Kong, however, I spent much of my childhood living in Nigeria before moving to the United States at the age of 10. Being exposed to biodiversity as a child, I developed a fondness and appreciation for the natural world. My approach to art is inspired by my love for nature and curiosity to explore its forms and structures with the ceramic medium. The unpredictable outcome of clay challenges my skills and knowledge, every lesson it presents to me keeps me humble and fuels my desire to be better in my craft. 

I aim to make quirky and bold pieces that “spark joy” and are functional. I first begin with a general idea of what I want to sculpt, from there the design evolves naturally as I progress. As the piece starts to take shape, I often find myself getting to know who they are and understand their purpose. This process is why each and every single piece that I have created is so special to me. It is my hope that these pieces bring you as much joy and happiness as they bring me in their creation.
